CLINICAL GENETICIST
Daily Activities: A Clinical Geneticist diagnose people and treat them with inherited diseases and prescribe therapy and interact with genetic counselors. They also evaluate risks of inherited diseases and treat certain forms of cancer. Also, they look at medical history of patients and manage documents of their patients history.
Education: Clinical Geneticists must have their bachelors degree and a Doctor of Medicine. They also have to have a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and attend medical school. They must also have multiple medical residences and clinical genetics fellowship. Then they must pass United States Medical Licensing Examination.
I am very interested in this job because it seems really interesting to work with diseases. Also, working with people and running tests for patients seems like fun for daily work activities. In class we have learned about mutations and many different diseases like Sickle Cell Anemia and the different types of Diabetes which will be helpful with this job. Knowing the different signs and symptoms of disease like that ones we learned about in class would be extremely important when diagnosing the diseases associated with this job. I put this career journal in my portfolio because I am very interested in the type of work this job includes and I think I would be very good at a job like this.
