TOXICOLOGIST
Daily Activities: Toxicologists analyze blood and other bodily tissues and fluids to study both the physical and chemical agents that interact with the body. A toxicologist specializes in the examination of tissues, blood, and other fluids in the body in order to help determine what the cause of death may be and if there was something in the body that could have affected the death. They determine if illegal substances such as drugs or alcohol were present at the time of the death. Some toxicologists study animals as well and not just humans.
Education and Training: In order to become a toxicologists someone would need a high school diploma and a bachelors degree in either biology, chemistry, or toxicology. After getting one of those degrees, it is a good idea to attend some type of graduate school to get a better education and help make it easier to get a job in that type of field.
I have a lot of interest in toxicology because I think I would really enjoy doing tests everyday in a lab and working with blood and other tissues in the body. The human body really interests me so I would enjoy being able to determine causes of death that way and testing different parts of the body. In this class we learned about the different body systems and what they do which will be helpful in this field. I chose to put this career in this section of my portfolio because this type of career field seems like a nice fit for me. I would enjoy all of the activities that you must perform in this career.
